To drill the right hole for an anchor, you need to know which anchor to use. The length of the hole as well as the diameter must fit exactly. You have to pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions for the used dowel!
As a rule of thumb for standard dowels you can use the following,
Drilling hole depth = length of dowel + 10mm
Make sure that the screw is always longer than the dowel. Only if the screw penetrates the anchor completely when screwed in can the anchor fulfil its function and spread firmly in the wall.
TIP! Depending on the substrate, it is also advisable to drill the hole first with a small drill one millimetre smaller. Drilling the hole is easier than closing it and drilling it again.
